Ladies Kennel Association Championship Show 2014 Critique

We were very late entering the ring to start judging and I must thank all those who stayed. I had a lovely entry and enjoyed my judging. I found quite a number of hounds with poor front construction where the shoulder is set onto the chest too far forward and together with a rather straight upper arm creates a lack of forechest and infill allowing loose front movement. Temperaments were wonderful as usual. This is truly a lovely breed.

1st:  GRIMSHAW Mr & Mrs G J & J A Greyflax The Jazz Singer To Jamalison
10 month pup of good size and proportions. Nice head and expression and high set folded ears. Good length of neck and fair front with good depth of chest. Shapely underline with good carry back of ribs. Nice width of thigh and drooping croup with good hind angulation. Moved quite well up and back with nice extension in profile. Has a tendency to ring his tail which spoils his outline.

 2nd Helps Dr S A F  Mrs H B Beardswood Spey
A big dark youngster with a nice outline and well carried tail. Head a little plain at present as he lacks furnishings. Balanced moderate front and rear angulation with good depth of chest.  Moved quite well but not the extension of winner and needs to strengthen in rear movement.

These 2 puppies were very similar and it was a close decision between them which will probably change in the future. Both are very shapely girls with fair angulation, well folded ears and good coats. Today preferred the hind quarters and feet of 1. Both need time to strengthen in movement.

2nd:  TAYLOR, Mrs S J & PEACH Mr & Mrs G&M Kilbourne Tess To Talorpeche
Same remarks as for winner but this one has a slightly better front. Not surprised to find they are sisters.
